All of our DNAfx pedals come with software to download and connect with on your computer. What for? Well, knob toggling, sound shaping, and file importing are all easier on big screen. You can play around and change every parameter on the DNAfx pedal from the software editor, and then lock your presets in to take on the road with you. Of course, you don’t need to use the software and the FX pedal is fully functional on its own. However, our Lukas personally finds the software much more convenient, demonstrating on our DNAfx GiT Advanced. The software is available for all DNAfx models and you can download it on our website in the specs section of our DNAfx models.
The editor comes pre-loaded with a tonne of default presets so you can always just jump right in and get an approximation for the sound you want, and then adjust the parameters to your liking. Making your own presets from scratch is also possible and can be named and saved for later recall. In the editor you’ll find a full list of parameters. Lukas demonstrates how creating a clean guitar tone can be as simple as using the compressor, amp and cab parameters. Select a parameter and modify knobs to your liking. Then add mod or ‘verb FX. Everything you do in the editor changes simultaneously on the DNAfx.

All DNAfx models, except the DNAfx GiT Core, have a built-in expression pedal, which you can assign your own parameters to: volume, wah, whammy, walls of reverb, phaser, you name it. Then just pop your DNAfx on the ground and you can use the expression pedal hands free. Then there’s IR (impulse response). IR is a recorded audio file of how a cab and mic shapes a signal tone, loaded into the DNAfx to be applied to your unique guitar signal. The DNAfx comes with a set of default IRs, and the opportunity to load in your own third-party or self-made IRs. Load one in, and your signal runs through it, so it sounds as if it’s coming out of that exact cab, mic’d that exact way.
See, easy peasy lemon squeezy. Don’t be afraid of software, be afraid of the gnarly tones it will unlock for you. Join us for more upcoming videos in the DNAfx Soundlab Series. Or click here if you want to know more about creating guitar tones on the DNAfx Amp.
